TEACHING SPEAKING SKILL BY USING SNOWBALL THROWING GAME TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 6 LUBUKLINGGAU
XML JSONThis study aims to determine the effect of using snowball throwing game on the speaking skills of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Lubuklinggau in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research method was pre-experimental design with a one group pre-test and post-test model. The sample was consisted of 28 students selected through a cluster sampling technique. The research instrument was a speaking test assessed by two raters based on grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, pronounciation aspects. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test after conducting normality and reliability tests. The results showed that the average pre-test score was 58.42, with 18% of students achieving mastery, while the average post-test score increased to 76.93, with 86% of students achieving mastery. The t-test results indicated that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores that tcount > ttable 36.66 > 1.70329 It can be concluded that the use of snowball throwing game is effective in improving students’ speaking skills. This game makes learning more interactive, enjoyable, and encourages students to be more confident in speaking English, especially in mastering procedure text material. It can be concluded that, the application of the snowball throwing game at SMP Negeri 6 Lubuklinggau students was significantly effective.
